Greta Gerwig’s Likely Cast for ‘Little Women’ Has Oscar Written All Over It

If you followed film in 2017, chances are you heard the name Greta Gerwing floating around quite a bit. She wrote, directed and appeared in the movie Lady Bird, which was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture. The movie followed and artistically inclined seventeen-year-old girl coming of age in Sacramento, California circa 2002. People loved it and have been eagerly awaiting for Gerwig’s next project, and now we finally have our answer!

Gerwig will be directing the big screen adaption of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel Little Women for Columbia Pictures. Little Women “follows teenaged sisters Amy, Jo, Beth and Meg and their mother in Civil War era Massachusetts as they navigate their new town, true love, and their first holiday without their father, a traveling minister.”

There haven’t been any official casting announcements made yet, but according to Variety the actors and actresses reportedly in talks for starring roles, including some Lady Bird alums, basically, have “and the Oscar goes to…” written all over them. Let’s take a look!

Meryl Streep

Meryl is an icon and I will 100% go see any film she’s in. Streep has been nominated for more Oscars than any other actor and has three wins under her belt. On the horizon for Streep is Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Disney’s  Mary Poppins reboot alongside Emily Blunt as well as a starring role in the second season of Big Little Lies, which will surely get her an Emmy nomination.

 Saoirse Ronan

Lady Bird alum Saoirse Ronan is also in talks to star, presumably as one of the sisters. The project would team Ronan back up with Gerwig, which would be fantastic seeing how they were the epitome of friendship goals during awards season last year. Ronan has been nominated for three Academy Awards for her work in Atonement, Brooklyn, and Ladybird and will soon be starring opposite Margot Robbie in the upcoming Mary Queen of Scots

Emma Stone

It’s hard to not love Emma Stone, who won the Oscar in 2017 for her role as Mia in La La Land. We think that she would be the perfect addition to a Gerwig film and hope that her casting comes to fruition. She will soon be stepping into the fur coat of iconic Disney villain Cruella de Vil in the live action Cruella.

Timothee Chalamet

He hasn’t been on the scene too long but Chalamet is basically synonymous with Oscar these days. He was nominated last year for Call Me By Your Name and I’m convinced that he will certainly be getting some nominations for his upcoming film with Steve Carrell, Beautiful Boy. Chalamet also starred in Lady Bird with Ronan and Gerwig so if he joins the film the whole gang would be back together!

We will keep you updated with all Little Women updates! In the meantime, who would you like to see starring in the movie? Let us know!
