‘Gotham’ Season 3: Ben McKenzie Previews Jim Gordon as A Sad Drunk

Tonight we will finally be able to see what happens next in Gotham and we are so excited! Last season it was all about the wrath of the villains and this season, everything will go a bit crazy. Especially the Indian Hill creatures that got their freedom and the Mad Hatter on the loose. It sure will be a mad city. See what I did there?

Ben McKenzie had a talk with EW about Jim Gordon and what we will see this season:

“Gordon’s a bounty hunter,” Ben McKenzie says. “He’s living a sparse life, collecting the dough and drinking a lot.”

But not only Ben McKenzie had something to say about the character. Also executive producer Ken Woodruff sat down with EW:

“If you look at Jim Gordon in particular, if you look at it from a slightly different point of view, a lot of the things that he’s done over the past two seasons and going into the third season, could be considered evil,” Woodruff says. “We know his intentions so we forgive a lot of it, but he’s made a lot of mistakes and that’s something that we think gives us a lot of drama.”

The attempt to get Lee Thompkins back at the end of season 2, didn’t go as well as Gordon planned.

“He’s a sad drunk,” McKenzie says. “He’s got a tear in his beer.”

That, does not mean he will be drinking alone. We already saw in one of the trailers, that Valerie Vale has joined him in a bar.

“He’s longing for some connection and into that comes a lot of things, including Valerie Vale, the intrepid reporter for the Gotham Gazette,” McKenzie says. “Their relationship has more to do with mutual self-interests than it does with a profound love affair, but there is a connection and there’s a way they can help each other and Gordon, feeling lonely, is also looking for some companionship.”

Gotham will be coming back, tonight on Fox!
