‘Gotham’ Recap ‘A Dark Knight: Let Them Eat Pies’

Hello Gothamites, here we are with a brand new recap!

Last week we ended with Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) being all kinds of mad once he heard that Barbara (Erin Richards), Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) en Selina (Camren Bicondova) failed to bring Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) to him. On top of that Jim Gordon now is a Captain of the GCPD and Penguin cannot handle it. Besides that, the little boy Martine is still under Penguin’s spell and taught him that friends stab you in the back.

Things are changing a lot, and the club in the Narrows is now looking for a new leader of the club, Lee Thompkins (Morena Baccarin). With Cherry (Marina Benedict) far gone, the people were all looking at her as she was the one to take care of the fight club’s warriors. Drinks on the house! What the most shocking moment was, was that Solomon Grundy (Drew Powell) started to remember Tabitha. Will he remember her entirely?

The last scene was that Captain Jim Gordon went to Sofia Falcone’s house. Jim is taking a stand against her and sees what her ‘partnership’ really is doing to Gotham. Jim says he doesn’t need her help anymore and tells her to leave Gotham. But Sofia isn’t taking it and invited Gordon into her home, which he declines right away.

This week was one thrilling episode!

We begin with Professor Pyg dressing up and bringing donuts to the homeless people. He brings them right into his truck and takes pictures with his Polaroid of everyone he’s feeding pumpkin pies. Of course, it wouldn’t be Professor Pyg if these people didn’t start coughing and, presumingly, falling dead. This episode shows exactly how dark Gotham has become since the first season.

Right after that Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) arrives at his new office. Harvey Bullock is cleaning out the room, making space for Jim. He, of course, isn’t happy that Jim Gordon is taking his place. And Bullock is blaming Gordon for everything that happened from the beginning. He even brings back the memory of when Carmine Falcone was running things in Gotham. Bullock then says that he will not be returning after his leave.

Oswald Cobblepot arrives in Sofia Falcone’s home, complementing the flowers that she’s arranging. He seems very excited to do the fundraiser that evening. Oswald tells Sofia there is a newly risen problem, of course, you can already guess, he’s not happy that the mayor promoted Jim Gordon to be the Captain of the GCPD. Oswald wants to take his revenge on the mayor, but he disappeared, and Oswald is looking for him. That’s the reason Oswald isn’t able to attend the fundraiser. It’s still visible that Oswald is in doubt if he could trust Sofia Falcone. But we all can see that he doesn’t want it to be true, he wants a friend he can trust this time.

Oswald goes on that he needs a spy that stays close to Sofia Falcone without saying anything. Now his new friendship with Martine will be used in the game. Poor kid! But, he doesn’t know any better.

Professor Pyg contacts Jim Gordon again, right in the surrounding of the GCPD. He lets Jim Gordon know he’s entering ‘Phase 2’ with Gotham’s elite. While he walks out of his tent that’s right in front of the GCPD, Jim, and backup run outside to try and find him. They only discover two bodies surrounded by pigs.

Later Jim and his partner Harper discover Pyg’s hideout and find out he’s removing the organs of the victim’s bodies and cooking them. Is anyone feeling the Hannibal moment? Harper gets hurt by the Pyg coming out of nowhere, leading to her abduction.

Professor Pyg finds his way into Sofia Falcone’s kitchen as the master disguiser he is. He plays a French chef and calls his pastries ‘Gotham Meat Pies’. That does not sound good at all.

Back to the fundraiser, Penguin makes a surprise visit. There and then we realize that Sofia Falcone doesn’t trust her new chef in the kitchen (and for a good reason too). Soon Jim Gordon finds himself in trouble (again) and gets knocked out by Professor Pyg. He wakes up right next to a half-conscious Harper.

And that is when Professor Pyg enters the party. He seats everyone down and serves up while singing. Sofia Falcone (Crystal Reed) made a mistake to intervene and gets a fork jammed into her hand against the table.

Professor Pyg plays his part as a sick psychopath very well; he asks the people that attended the fundraiser (the rich, as he calls them) to open the envelopes next to their plates. He’s making them eat the victims from at the beginning of the episode. Which is pretty disgusting, but what do you do when a kid gets threatened? Would you eat the pie?

Professor Pyg makes his point and tells Oswald why he is there. And it’s all about Penguin and his Pax rule he started. Penguin, of course, took the bait and started eating. Making the rest of the guest follow. Right before Sofia takes a bite though, Jim Gordon can escape the room and saves the day! The whole scene made me close my eyes with my hands in front of them while looking through my fingers of course.

When things calm down, Sofia Falcone confesses she paid the mayor to make Jim Gordon Captain of the GCPD. But, instead of that Penguin gets mad, he lets it go because she stood up for Martine.

And as you can guess, a kiss is shared between Sofia and Jim. That’s when Martine reports this to Penguin.

What did you think of this episode? Do you think that Professor Pyg planned his capture? And what do you think Penguin will do to Sofia? Let us know in the comment below.

The next episode of Gotham will air on November 30 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
