‘God Of War’ Reigns Triumphant At BAFTA

The hit video game, God of War won big at The British Academy Games Awards last night.

The PS4 Exclusive which centers around the mighty Kratos and his son Atreus who venture through Norse Mythology battling the monstrous creatures of the 9 realms, won 5 BAFTA’s at the 2019 award show.

Surprisingly, Red Dead Redemption II walked away empty handed despite 6 nominations.

God of War won the award for best music, composed by the brilliant Bear McCreary who is the composer for the new Godzilla movie. It also won Best Narrative, Audio Achievement, and Best Performer which went to Jeremy Davies who played the Norse God Baldur, and honestly I can’t imagine it going to anyone else. Jeremy’s performance as Baldur was so captivating that it separated him from most video game villains, not only are the various boss battles epic but his overall presence is both frightening and slightly tragic. Well deserved.

Of course, the most prestigious award a game can win is the Best Game award which also went to God of War.

As a casual gamer who tends to drop in and out, playing God of War was one of the best gaming experiences for me. Not only did I manage to 100% it, but I also think it improved my overall gaming ability. One of the toughest obstacles I faced as Kratos was definitely the various Valkyries and the Valkyrie Queen. But I did it… eventually.

Experiencing God of War for the first time was such an immense experience. It was visually pleasing, actually it was stunning! each realm was unique and challenging in its own way. This game offered a whole new dynamic that had never been seen before in previous God of War installments. While it was great being the god of war, summoning the powerful Leviathan as I beheaded a dark elf, one of the most compelling aspects of God of War was the evolving relationship between Kratos and his son. It was infuriating, sweet, and touching. The fact a video game was able to elicit such emotions from me just indicates the power of video games and the amount of time and effort that went into God of War.

Congratulations, Boy!
