DC Universe enthusiasts have finally seen the first set of programming that includes shows for HBO Max, along with a few feature films. To top it off, an animated series known as Creature Commandos is being developed—it will incorporate some of DC’s eerie characters. James Gunn from DC Studios issued confirmation on Saturday about casting news coming sooner than expected; although the slate announcement was recent, anticipation within the fandom has been brewing for months!
When asked if there would be news of casting decisions within the next six months, Gunn responded with an affirmative. It is unsurprising then that Superman: Legacy being first in line for DC Studios’ release slate suggests this Clark Kent will likely be one of the earliest characters casted for the movie.

Who is going to be the new Superman?
Despite recent rumors that DC Studios was searching for a much younger version of Superman, director James Gunn has clarified that this is not the case. As of yet, there have been no hints as to whom they will be casting in the Man of Steel role.
“Yeah but people are speculating about both ages,” Gunn said on Twitter on Friday. “All I ever said was Superman was younger than in his forties and Batman MIGHT be a couple years older than Superman.”
What is Superman: Legacy about?
Little is known about the story of the original feature film in this popular franchise, but James Gunn has asserted that All-Star Superman serves as its inspiration. Furthermore, it not only inspired that specific movie but also served as an impetus for the entire series.
“Superman: Legacy is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe,” Gunn said at a DC Studios presentation last month. “Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world. I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”
The DC Universe is officially launching with the anti-climactic Creature Commandos and Superman: Legacy, premiering on July 11 2025. No release date has been announced yet for Creature Commandos.
