‘Game of Thrones’ Behind-the-Scenes Video Shows Awesome Season 7 Special Effects

We are just about a little over a month away from what is sure to be an incredibly epic season 7 of HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones.  Fans are pretty much at the point where they can’t wait any longer for new content and news about the upcoming season.  Luckily for us, HBO has our back!

Over the past several weeks, we’ve gotten a ton of cool new information such as set photos, at new trailer, promise for an epically long finale episode and confirmation that dragons are now as big as 747s.  Now, we’ve got some awesome behind the scenes video on how the special effects team works their magic to bring us the world of Westeros each week.

A man by the name of Sam Conway is the Special Effects Supervisor on the series and has been so since season 4.  He takes great pride in the work he accomplishes on Game of Thrones. Actually, he doesn’t call it “work”.  He refers to his job on set as “an art form.”  From what we get to see in the below clip, we’d have to agree with Conway on that one.

The behind the scenes video shows Daenarys (Emilia Clarke) riding a heap of moving metal (literally) which will later be transformed into one of her lovely dragons thanks to Conway and his team.  Additionally, we get to see lots of explosions and, of course, lots of fire!  They definitely weren’t kidding about breaking the record for setting the most stuntmen on fire because, there sure is a lot of it!

In the video, Conway says, “We handle gas, we handle water, we handle wind, we handle smoke, we handle pyrotechnics, we handle engineering, blood, snot, you know, everything.  Everything you could possibly imagine is our trade.”

This trade is something that needs to be executing with exact precision as well, otherwise, people get injured.  Though it may look like a team playing around with fireworks, this is no easy task and we greatly appreciate the work that Sam Conway and his special effects team have done.

Check out the behind the scenes video below.  Game of Thrones season 7 premieres Sunday, July 16th on HBO.
