Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra’s seminal comicbook series Y: The Last Man, which was ordered to pilot by Fox back in 2018, has been ordered to series by FX Network. Y: The Last Man will be produced by Michael Green of American Gods fame and Aida Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage) will be the show-runners and executive producers, along with Vaughn.
“Michael Green and Aida Mashaka Croal have partnered with Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson to deliver a stunning new expression of this fascinating and timely story. Melina Matsoukas, who directed the pilot, did an incredible job bringing it to life with Diane Lane and this stellar cast.
-Nick Grad, co-president of original programming for FX
The original comicbook series took place in the wake of a plague that killed all males in every species, except for the titular Last Man, Yorrick Brown. Yorrick seeks to find his place in this new landscape, while keeping his identity a secret. He is joined on his journey by Agent 355 of the Culper Ring (a spy ring founded by George Washington), and his (also male) helper monkey, Ampersand. The series is famous for it’s biting social commentary, it’s take on gender politics, and Vaughn’s trademark humor.
Brian and Pia’s exploration of a world without men is a favorite for its depth, its humor, its insights and its monkey. Adapted today it offers us a cracked mirror to look at our own very cracked world. We thank them for their trust, we thank FX for their support and we thank the casting gods for letting us work with this incredible group of actors.

The cast includes Dunkirk‘s Barry Keoghan as Yorrick, Diane Lane, Imogen Poots, and Amber Tamblyn. Y: The Last Man is expected to premiere in 2020, though no date has specifically been set, nor has an episode count been decided on.
