‘Frozen 2’ Adds New Songs

Frozen co-director Jennifer Lee announced some details about the sequel earlier this week, including some new songs.

“We have a new song that I think is an evolution,” Lee told Variety. “It’s its own song…Bobby [Lopez] and Kristen [Anderson-Lopez] just delivered it three weeks ago. We’ve been working with them for two years and this song just came in and I love it.”

This song is one of four chosen for the film. “We have three more to go,” Lee adds.

Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez form an Oscar-winning songwriting team who worked on the original film and are confirmed to be working on Frozen 2, saying they’ve dug deeper into the characters in the world of Arendelle. They’ve even recorded a song with Kristen Bell. It’s all still hush-hush.

“There’s a new energy of us just being fearless,” Lee said. “What we’re really investing in now is what is the future generation of filmmakers…We’re taking our seasoned directors and they’re mentoring. There’s an energy of bringing new voices in and creating films that just push us to the next place. The doors are open for everyone to really participate.”

The plot, Lee revealed, will focus on Elsa (Idina Menzel) and will be “bigger, more epic” than the first and will extend “far out of Arendelle.”  Menzel and Bell will return along with Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, and Alan Tudyk.

The film will now be released in theaters on Nov. 22, 2019, about a week earlier than originally planned. Frozen is also currently playing on Broadway.
