Iconic ’90s actor Freddie Prinze Jr. is gearing up to star in a new series! According to TVLine, the actor has signed on to star as Nancy Drew‘s estranged father in The CW’s upcoming untitled pilot from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the team behind classic popular dramas such as The O.C., Gossip Girl, and Marvel’s Runaways. The pilot will be written by The Magicians’ Noga Landau.
The project marks the third attempt that a network has tried to bring the young detective to the small screen, although The CW’s version is hoping to find success by sticking to what it does best – following young adults in a small town. The series, which is based on the beloved Carolyn Keene novels, “is centered on 18-year-old Nancy Drew (played by newcomer Kennedy McMann) the summer after her high school graduation. Nancy thought she’d be leaving her hometown for college, but when a family tragedy holds her back another year, she finds herself embroiled in a ghostly murder investigation — and along the way, she uncovers secrets that run deeper than she ever imagined.”
Prinze Jr. will be playing Carson Drew, “a dynamic attorney who has become estranged from Nancy following the recent death of his beloved wife. But Carson’s attempts to reconnect with his daughter run aground when Nancy’s murder investigation reveals unsettling secrets from his own past.”
Freddie Prinze Jr. is notably known for his early roles in films such as She’s All That, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Summer Catch, and the live-action Scooby-Doo films. More recently, he has done a lot of voice work in series such as Star Wars: Rebels and Robot Chicken.
While it’s taken quite some time for television to figure out how to bring Drew to the small screen, fans can look forward to the latest big screen take in Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase, The film, which is now playing, finds It star Sophia Lillis in the title role as she struggles to fit into new surroundings and solve the latest mystery with her pals. It is also set to star Laura Wiggins, Linda Lavin, and Sam Trammell. Emma Roberts was the latest actress to bring the role to life in the 2007 film Nancy Drew.

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
