Firefighters had to Rescue Anna Kendrick after Getting Stuck in an Elevator

At the Toronto International Film Festival, actress and singer Anna Kendrick had an odd incident. The Pitch Perfect actress stated on Sunday that she and her crew were trapped in an elevator en route to a presentation. Kendrick recorded the entire affair and subsequently shared it on Instagram, adding “Ah, the classic ‘I’m behind schedule at this film festival because I had to be rescued from an elevator’ excuse #TIFF22,”

In the clip, Kendrick jokes about how he has to ration his food and how important it is to always carry a water bottle with you. She snaps her fingers and playfully points the camera at the crowded elevator to illustrate how she is “just vibing” while everyone tries to get out.

Kendrick cracks a joke as fire officials lower the ladder, saying she’s wearing the perfect outfit. “It’s a good thing I’m not wearing a short skirt today,” she said to herself as she finished pulling her long skirt down before starting to climb the ladder. “The Lord said to me, choose a long skirt, Anna.”

The actress opened up about the experience while at the festival to promote her new film, Alice, Darling. “I got in the wrong elevator at the wrong time,” she joked on Sunday.

“I got out. Some lovely Canadian firefighters had me crawl out the top of the hatch,” she recalled. “But, yeah, it was, like, seven of us in an elevator just waiting to be rescued by firefighters. It was so absurd that it would happen on a film press tour that it just seemed so immediately comical.” Kendrick added,”I couldn’t stop cracking jokes. Although, maybe that’s a defense mechanism. Come on, Anna. Do you know anything about yourself? I think that was probably a defense mechanism. Oh no, I’m not healthy!”

In a recent interview with People, Alice darling and director Mary Nighy discussed their Oscars nomination. She described it as being the first project to really hit home with her.
“Usually, it’s just I read a good script and I like the people involved, and I make the movie,” she says It was rather remarkable timing that we discovered this script when I was going through such a difficult period in my life. My first Zoom meeting with Mary Nighy, the director, was difficult because I had to discloser my personal struggles. I said to her recently, ‘All of this happened very suddenly.’ It happened so recently that if the movie was shooting any sooner than it was, I probably shouldn’t have taken the role. So I wasn’t in danger of re-traumatizing myself But yeah, it’s certainly a unique experience.”

Kendrick said that because she feels connected to the film’s themes, it was therapeutic for her to work on it. “felt incredibly cathartic. Like so many things in life, I think the piece that was most therapeutic was actually building relationships with these collaborators and sharing our personal histories with each other, and then creating this thing together,” Kendrick said.
