Fire Meets Ice in the New ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Teaser

Game of Thrones fans are finally getting some satisfaction and some teases relating to the upcoming eighth and final season of the series. On Thursday, the HBO hit series dropped a brand new teaser which seems innocent at first watch, but if you look closely, it’s anything but innocent.

The below brief teaser shows what looks to be a version of the opening credits map. We see a Stark Direwolf and a Targaryen Dragon overcome by an icy fog which is rolling in towards a rapidly spreading wildfire. The fire engulfs a Lannister lion before colliding with the ice in a dramatic and symbolic finish.

The final race for the throne is coming! Check out the teaser below.

Fans have waited patiently for a look at the upcoming eighth season and the Game of Thrones showrunners have a good reason for taking their sweet time. Showrunner David Benioff explains that the series is going out with what sounds to be a massive spectacle of a season. In order to perfect all that they took on for the final season, they need as much time as they can get. He said:

[row]“The final season’s taking a long time because it’s the biggest thing we’ve ever done,” Benioff said. “It was nearly a full year in Belfast either prepping it or actually shooting it. I think when people see it, they’re going to understand why it took so long. The last season is far beyond what we’ve ever attempted before.”[/row]

In addition to the eighth and final season, HBO has announced that one of the potential Game of Thrones spinoff series received a pilot order from the network giving fans comfort that, though the original series might be coming to an end, there is still more story to be told once the final chapter of the HBO series airs.

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will air on HBO in April 2019.
