After the third season of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, showrunner Dave Erickson will exit the show. AMC announced that he will be focused on the development of the cable network as part of a multi-year deal. He will remain credited as an executive producer, although, he will no longer be involved with the daily overseeing of the prequel.

Erickson will be hands-on in the development of new projects with AMC studios as well as other AMC networks, which includes Sundance TV. There has been no announcement regarding Erickson’s replacement. Any news will remain pending until the show receives word about it’s fourth season.

A statement released by Erickson reads:

“I have truly enjoyed working with the writers and directors, cast and crew on Fear and am so proud of what we have accomplished over our first two seasons. I look forward to completing work on season three, sharing it with the fans and developing new projects with my partners at AMC.” ~ Dave Erickson

Some of Erickson’s credits include Netfilx’s Marco Pole, Fx’s Sons of Anarchy and AMC’s Low Winter Sun.

The Walking Dead franchise as had many showrunner changes. The original series was developed by Frank Darabont who left the show during season 2. Glen Mazzara replaced Darabont but also exited and replaced by current showrunner, Scott M. Gimple who has had the longest run in the driver’s seat thus far.

AMC president of original programming Joel Stillerman had this to say regarding Erickson’s departure from the series:

“We’re beyond grateful for Dave’s amazing work on the first three seasons of Fear the Walking Dead. With Dave as showrunner, the series fulfilled its creative promise to expand The Walking Dead universe in a way that was totally unique from the original series, and has gone on to become the No. 2 drama series in ad-supported cable, behind only The Walking Dead. We are also incredibly excited that Dave has chosen to stay in the AMC family to pursue his next passion project. We look forward to many more successful collaborations.”

Well guys, I’m not exactly sure yet how I feel about this change and what it either means for the show or what it will bring or take away from it. I have been and will remain a loyal fan of the show even though some might feel that it pales in comparison to the mother ship. No matter what happens, we wish Dave Erickson much success in all his future endeavors with AMC.
