Fans of the Fast & Furious franchise are no strangers to Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s iconic characters of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, so when it was announced that the two would be getting their own spin-off film, we basically looked like this:
While very little information has been released about the film, EW exclusively revealed that a director has officially stepped on board! Deadpool 2’s David Leitch has signed on to helm the movie, which is expected to hit theaters next July.

His most recent directorial works have been Charlize Theron’s Atomic Blonde and he co-directed John Wick. According to EW he is “known for incredibly visceral, stunt-driven action sequences and was a stunt double/coordinator prior to directing,” which sounds like the perfect combination for the franchise.
We can’t wait to see these two take both their action skills and over-the-top dialogue to their own big screen!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
