Gavel, the German Shepard, was originally groomed to be a police dog. However, he wasn’t quite able to cut it. Why? It turns out that Gavel was too friendly! As a police dog, rather than sniff for explosives or catch bad guys, this lovable pup was more interested in getting belly rubs. His overly social personality got him booted from the Queensland Police Service in Australia.
However, this pup did not wait in the unemployment line for long. Instead, he was quickly selected for a new job that better fit his affable nature. When Governor Paul de Jersey heard about Gavel’s dismissal, he decided to adopt the dog and appointed him as the new Vice-Regal Dog for the Queensland’s Government House.
Now he not only welcomes visitors, but Gavel also attends official ceremonies in fancy outfits.
