Danai Gurira is best known for her beloved katana-wielding character, Michonne, on the hit show The Walking Dead, but some fans may not know that she is also an award-winning, Tony Award-nominated playwright. Gurira hit the red carpet on Monday night at the Edison Ballroom in New York City where she was honored for her acclaimed work in the world of theater at this year’s Theatre Communications Group Gala.
We had a chance to chat with Danai about her passion for theater, her thoughts on the country after the results of the presidential election, what she “fangirls” over, and her upcoming role in the sure-to-be-a-blockbuster-hit Marvel film, Black Panther!
