Bugs Bunny and The Tune Squad are officially coming back for Space Jam 2 and this time they’re bringing the heat with basketball star, Lebron James in his first feature film role since Amy Schumer’s 2015 Trainwreck. The film will act as a follow-up to the nostalgia-inducing and brilliant 1996 film, which starred Michael Jordan as the athlete recruited by the Looney Toons to take on the adorable yet evil Monstars.
James’ production company SpringHill Entertainment confirmed the news on their Instagram page earlier this week, sharing the impressive creative team behind the project. Fan-favorites Black Panther director Ryan Coogler and Fast Five director Justin Lin will be producing the film with HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness creator Terence Nance directing.

[row]”I loved his vision [ for Black Panther] so for Ryan to be able to bring that to kids, it’s amazing,” James told The Hollywood Reporter about Coogler’s vision.”The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie. It’s so much bigger. I’d just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don’t just give up on their dreams. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people,” he continued.[/row]
The team James has put together seems to have swayed the ’90s skeptics who were trepidatious about the iconic film getting a new installment.

Production on Space Jam 2 is set to start in 2019 and Comicbook.com’s Brandon Davis discovered a series of numbers in the photo that could hint as to when the film may be hitting theaters!
12.3.2021 is a Friday. 1.23.2021 is a Saturday.
I’m betting Space Jam 2’s release date corresponds with one of those dates teased in this photo. https://t.co/hGIMAFFpuq

What are your thoughts on Space Jam 2? Let us know if you’re on board or are still skeptical!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
