The Falcon And The Winter Soldier: VanCamp Defending Power Broker Reveal Amidst Backlash!

The Falcon And Winter Soldier had plenty of twists and turns to keep us guessing what would happen next. It also answered a lot of those questions and set up several plot points that could affect the MCU later. One of the bigger mysteries surrounding the season was about a new villain hiding in the shadows. Peopled debated the identity of The Power Broker for weeks after we first heard the title. Now, VanCamp is defending the Power Broker reveal amidst a wave of backlash surrounding the reveal. Spoilers for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 6, “One World, One People”. The episode revealed that Emily VanCamp‘s Sharon Carter was secretly The Power Broker all along. This upset some fans, who felt like the reveal had not been worth the wait. Even crazier is that both Sam (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan) are still oblivious to that fact. Good job Sharon, you fooled everyone! This is probably going to be an issue later on, considering she funded the new super soldier serum created by Dr. Wilfred Nagel’s (Olli Haaskivi). This serum would eventually find its way to the new Captain America turned U.S. Agent John Walker (Wyatt Russell).

Defending The Power Broker

“I thought it was great. I mean, look, they really went there. We just turned Sharon on her head,” VanCamp told Collider. “I mean, she’s a totally different person, totally different character, and I just loved that. It felt like, again, it was fulfilling that thing that I felt like we never really completed with Sharon in terms of the films. And so it was just very cool.”

Sharon Carter became a fugitive after she helped Steve Rogers back in Captain America: Civil War. Since then Sharon has been through a lot and is not the same person she once was. By the end of The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, she had gotten her old job back. Unfortunately, she’s going to be using her new position to sell weapons to terrorists. She’s still bitter over what happened, it seems.

“I think we got most of the scripts pretty early on if I remember correctly. And I remember Malcolm [Spellman, series creator] and Kari [Skogland, director] and a bunch of people saying, ‘Well, just wait until you see what happens in the end. I had no idea what they were talking about, and then of course, the reveal happened and it made a ton of sense. But they all sort of let me read the script and kind of get a sense of what was happening within the story.” VanCamp said about the reveal.

Fans are expecting some of these plot threads to be picked up in the rumored Captain America 4. Or even more likely, in the Armor Wars series. Some fans even think that this Sharon Carter is secretly a Skrull, and it might be revealed in Secret Invasion. It’s still crazy that VanCamp is defending the Power Broker reveal. Well, more so it’s crazy that she has to. I thought the reveal was pretty cool!
