Emilia Clarke Says a Heartfelt Goodbye to ‘Game of Thrones’

It looks as if Emilia Clarke has officially concluded her reign as Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons.

Clarke posted a heartfelt goodbye to the great land of Northern Ireland as well as to the show itself via Instagram on Sunday indicating that she has wrapped on filming her role for the final eighth season. Her post included a beautiful selfie with a floral background and the caption, “Hopped on a boat to an island to say goodbye to the land that has been my home away from home for almost a decade. It’s been a trip @gameofthrones thank you for the life I never dreamed I’d be able to live and the family I’ll never stop missing #💔#lastseasonitis”

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the next season of Game of Thrones which will not be hitting HBO until sometime next year. Back in January, HBO programming president Casey Bloys commented on the long wait for the final season by saying, “Here’s what I’ll tell you: They take the time they need to do the show at its highest level of quality. As the show has gone on, it’s gotten bigger — big battle scenes, big special effects. These things take time. Here’s the one thing I can assure you: Dan and Dave were not sitting around on a beach waiting to go back to work. They’re perfectionists and this is the soonest it can come back at a level of quality that they are comfortable with.”

In addition to the upcoming final season, HBO recently announced that one of the potential Game of Thrones spinoff series received a pilot order from the network giving fans comfort that, though the original series might be coming to an end, there is still more story to be told once the final chapter of the HBO series airs.

Clarke’s emotional tribute is most likely just the first of many reflections shared by the cast and crew. We can expect to see more in the upcoming months as production on the final season begins to wind down.

The epic conclusion of the Game of Thrones series is expected to air sometime in 2019. No formal premiere date has yet been announced.
