Elizabeth Olsen Reflects on Playing Scarlet Witch and Explores Future Possibilities
Marvel Studios has been busy with the development of their upcoming Phase 5 films, generating immense excitement among fans for The Multiverse Saga. As anticipation builds for the release of Secret Invasion, the studio’s next major project and their first series of the year, discussions about the future of beloved Avengers characters have emerged. In a surprising revelation during Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Elizabeth Olsen shared her perspective on playing Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
When asked if she misses portraying the character, Olsen responded, “No, I don’t. I’ve been playing her for almost 10 years, and I have loved it. The reason I’m not constantly contacting Kevin Feige with ideas is because I am genuinely proud of what we have accomplished. WandaVision presented a truly unexpected opportunity. Even if someone were to tell me I am done with Marvel movies, I would feel a sense of pride for what we have created. Now, I am focused on exploring other films and characters, shifting the focus away from the Marvel universe.”
Kevin Feige on Scarlet Witch’s Future in the MCU:
Feige recently expressed his admiration for Olsen, describing her as incredibly humble and down-to-earth. He emphasized that although Wanda’s power on set is formidable, there is much more to explore in her character. Feige hinted at the possibility of Wanda’s return, mentioning that her core storylines from the comics remain largely untouched. Furthermore, he teased that Wanda’s fate following her encounter with falling rubble is uncertain, suggesting that there might be more to the story.
Feige added, “I would work with Lizzie for another 100 years if possible. In the multiverse, anything is possible. We’ll have to wait and see.”
Elizabeth Olsen on Wanda Maximoff’s Next Moves:
During a previous interview, Olsen discussed the wide-open road that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has created for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Although she remains unaware of Marvel Studios’ plans, she expressed her interest in exploring James Robinson’s “Witches Road” storyline for Wanda’s future in the MCU. Olsen specifically mentioned a powerful image from the storyline, envisioning an older version of Scarlet Witch, aging and decaying while wielding her powers. She expressed a desire to explore this concept and embrace the role of an elderly character.
As Marvel Studios ventures into Phase 5 and beyond, Elizabeth Olsen reflects on her journey as Scarlet Witch, expressing pride in her contributions to the MCU. While the future remains uncertain, hints from Kevin Feige and Olsen’s own aspirations suggest that fans can expect further exploration of Wanda Maximoff’s character in upcoming projects, potentially delving into uncharted storylines and traversing the vast possibilities of the multiverse.
