Rainbow Rowell’s ‘Eleanor & Park’ to get film adaptation

YA fiction fans across the globe are celebrating, as Rainbow Rowell’s acclaimed novel Eleanor & Park is finally being adapted for the big screen.

The author broke the news herself yesterday via twitter. Picturestart along with Plan B will be producing the film, with Rowell tipped to write the script.

 

There’s currently no news on production dates or casting, but an Instagram account has been set up.

Eleanor & Park follows two misfit teenagers in the late 80s as they meet on the school bus and bond over mixtapes and fall in love., but as always in life, things are never straightforward. The novel was first published in 2013 and has sold over 1 million copies.

Not just a love story, the novel also tackles sensitive subjects such as racial identity, family dynamics and body image issues. Some of these topics have even had the book banned in certain school districts.

In case that wasn’t enough, Rowell also has two new literary projects on the way – Wayward Son, a sequel to 2015’s Carry On and a graphic novel called Pumpkinheads. You can also find her writing Marvel Comics current Runaways series.
