Ed Sheeran Will Have a Guest Role in ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7

Winter is coming!  And, apparently, it’s bringing musician Ed Sheeran along for the ride.

During a panel at SXSW on Sunday, Game of Thrones series creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff confirmed Sheeran will have a guest role on the show in the upcoming 7th season.

Sheeran had been invited to set many time in order to surprise super fan and GoT star Maisie Williams but, it just never seemed to pan out, until now!  While he was on set, Sheeran filmed a small role for the series.

Sheeran responded via twitter by saying, “Guess the cat’s out of the bag.”

Though Weiss and Benioff did not elaborate further on what Sheeran’s role entails, they did confirm that season 8 of the HBO smash hit will only consist of six episodes.  This information was previously hinted by HBO programming president howevern, the show creators have now officially confirmed the 6-episode run.

Benioff said of the shortened season 8:

“From the beginning we’ve wanted to tell a 70-hour movie.  It will turn out to be a 73-hour movie, but it’s stayed relatively the same of having the beginning, middle and now we’re coming to the end. It would have been really tough if we lost any core cast members along the way, I’m very happy we’ve kept everyone and we get to finish it the way we want to.”

We’re sure it will be 6 grueling episodes in true Game of Thrones style!
