Disney Channel Star Dove Cameron is set to play the iconic role of Cher Horowitz in the Off-Broadway production of Clueless: The Musical.
Cameron confirmed the news on her Instagram saying “Life is about to get very yellow and very plaid and I am #totallybuggin.”
Clueless: The Musical is based on the classic 90s film which is a modern take on Jane Austin’s Emma. The original film starred Alicia Silverstone as Cher, a wealthy high schooler who takes the new girl, Tai, under her wing to help her fit in.
Clueless: The Musical will be presented by The New Group at the Pershing Square Signature Theater. The book is by the original’s screenwriter and director Amy Heckerling, direction by Kristin Hanggi (Rock of Ages) with choreography by Kelly Devine (Come from Away).
Cameron has many musical credits under her belt including The Descendants 1,2 and 3, and playing Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray Live! as well as debuting original music for her upcoming album.
With Cameron playing Cher, other cast members include Ephie Aardema as Tai, Lori Alan as Miss Geist, Gilbert L. Bailey II as Murray, Will Connolly as Travis, Tessa Grady as Amber, Justin Mortelliti as Christian, Dave Thomas Brown as Josh and Zurin Villanueva as Dionne.
Previews for Clueless: The Musical begin on November 20 with the official opening on December 11. The production is slated for a limited engagement and will close on January 12.
