“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” has now broken yet another record, setting new standards for Disney and furthering Encanto‘s popularity.
“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” has become the second song taken from an animated Disney film to ever hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The only other song to accomplish this was Aladdin’s “A Whole New World” nearly 30 years ago in 1993.
Unlike “A Whole New World,” which was performed by Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is an ensemble number with the voice talents of Carolina Gaitan, Mauro Castillo, Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz, Diane Guerrero, Stephanie Beatriz, and the rest of the Encanto cast.
The achievement of achieving the number one song in the world is remarkable, given that the Billboard Hot 100 is a cross-genre compilation, implying that a Disney song should logically be America’s most-listened-to track for the week. It even sent Adele back to number two, where she had been previously.
Encanto’s soundtrack previously dethroned Adele’s blockbuster album 30 from the top position of the Billboard 200, and it remains there now.
Columbia Records released “A Whole New World” as a single, becoming the first Disney song to top the Billboard Hot 100. However, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” was actually published by Walt Disney Records, establishing them as the first #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Also, for Lin Manuel-Miranda, the song’s success is momentous as it’s his first to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and for Disney. This is also his first song to top the Billboard Hot 100. Prior to “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” Lin Manuel-Miranda had achieved #20 with “Almost Like Praying.”
