Disney Announces the Cast of the Upcoming Adaptation of Artemis Fowl
Disney announced their initial casting today for the upcoming live-action adaptation of the critically-acclaimed fantasy series, Artemis Fowl, by Eoin Colfer. The first book finds 12-year-old super-genius, and criminal mastermind, Artemis Fowl discovering that there is an entire magical realm that exists parallel to his own and figuring he can restore his family fortune with that knowledge.
Cast in the lead role is Ferdia Shaw, who Disney is reporting beat out 1200 other candidates for the part. Shaw is joined by Josh Gad (Mulch Diggums, a kleptomaniac dwarf), Judi Dench (Commander Root of the fairy police force), Lara McDonnell (Captain Holly Short, a fairy), and Nonso Anozie (Artemis’ trusty butler, Butler).
Kenneth Branagh is set to direct the film from award-winning playwright Conor McPherson.
Artemis Fowl will hit theaters on August 9, 2019.
