Director Taika Waititi Wanted Deadpool To Be In ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

The reviews are in and Thor: Ragnarok is a hit! Not only is it the best of the Thor trilogy, but also as one of the most enjoyable of the MCU yet. Though what if I told you it could have been better, it could have been funnier, it could have had Deadpool!?

While answering questions on his Twitter account, Director Taika Waititi revealed that if he could have included any other Marvel character into the film, it’d have been Deadpool… but then laws got in the way.

As you know, Thor is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has his film rights in the safe care of Marvel Studios. Deadpool’s movie rights on the other hand belong to Fox right now and is probably the best property Fox owns right now. So its easy to see why they most likely wouldn’t have wanted to play ball. Then again, I’m sure something could have been arranged.

After all, Hulk’s movie rights belong to Universal, which is why there hasn’t been a standalone Hulk film. Though in that scenario, Hulk is safe in team up films. I doubt Deadpool has the same freedom; but come on! He’s Deadpool! He could easily pop up with a map, say he got lost and leave saying something like “Ohhhh, somebody is SO going to get sued!”

This would have also been an amazing choice because stylistically, Thor: Ragnarok is the closest thing Marvel Studios has to Deadpool’s comedic style. Sure it doesn’t go for the hard R-Rating, but there’s enough jokes in it that it’d somewhat fit. It’s either that or he appears in The Collector’s collection in an Avengers 4  Post Credits or Guardians 3. I suppose for now we’ll just have to wait and see. Sony is sharing custody of Spider-Man with Marvel Studios now, so maybe Fox will come around as well. And just think, then Deadpool can make some terrible joke about how Fox and Marvel Studios are his feuding parents that share custody of him.
