DC’s ‘Plastic Man’ Film Confirmed

After reports hinting that Warner Brothers was in the process of creating a film based on Plastic Man, the news is now confirmed.

An episode of DC Daily confirmed the news this week. The program describes the Plastic Man film as a comedy but action driven. Amanda Idoko is writing it, and it will focus on Eel O’Brien.

Several actors have already expressed interest in playing the hero, so that may help push development along a bit. Veep and Venom star Reid Scott is one of those actors. Earlier this year he said, he’d love to play Plastic Man “because it’s just so silly and out there.”

Talking with, he added,

“And because he was a thief, he was a pickpocket, he’s got this checkered past, and stuff like that. I tend to like characters that go through some sort of accident. I’ve always been sort of fascinated by that — I used to love Swamp Thing, and Toxic Avenger, and stuff like that — but Plastic Man was just so frickin’ weird, man. He was cool.”

Scott wouldn’t be the first actor to leap from one franchise to another, with Chris Evans having played Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four before becoming Captain America for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and with Michael B. Jordan playing Johnny Storm in a different incarnation of Fantastic 4 before starring as Killmonger in Black Panther.

Parks and Recreation and House of Lies star Ben Schwartz also expressed his interest via Twitter.

“I’ll start stretching now just in case,” he tweeted last week.

Schwartz tweeted more earlier in the year saying, “I’m ready to play Plastic Man. Is there like an application process or do I just dress up like him and make fun of Stretch Armstrong?”

DC’s latest film, Aquaman, hits theaters on December 21st.
