Another Marvel Netflix series has been canceled.

On Thursday night, Deadline reported that Netflix confirmed the popular Marvel series Daredevil would not be returning to the streaming service for a fourth season.  In a statement, Netflix announced the news saying:

[row]“Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”[/row]

The official social media accounts for Daredevil seemingly responded to the cancelation news on Thursday night with a semi-cryptic post. The accounts posted a photo with no caption, but no caption was really necessary. The photo is a snapshot of a Polaroid picture with the words, “Justice never stops,” written on it. In addition to the Polaroid, there is a napkin with the names of three characters from the show, Murdock, Nelson, and Page. Check out the post below.

Additionally, series star Deborah Ann Woll responded to the new by tweeting, “I’m so sad that we won’t be continuing this story. Mostly I’ll miss seeing the friends I’ve made everyday. Thank you to every person who contributed to this series over the years. And to @erikoleson because of you we are going out on a high.”

The news comes just over a month after Netflix announced the cancelation of two other Marvel series, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. For now, it appears as if the two remaining Marvel series, Jessica Jones and The Punisher, will still run their next seasons on Netflix as previously planned.

There may still be hope, however, for the Daredevil series to live on through another platform. Much like the statement released on Netflix when Iron Fist‘s cancelation was announced, it appears that Daredevil may not be completely dead. Once again, the statement ends on with an open-ended statement which indicates a possibility for the show’s characters to still appear throughout the other Marvel shows.

At this time, it’s unclear if any of these canceled series might be moving to Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, which is expected to launch in 2019.
