Danai Gurira Play Nominated for Six Tony Awards
Tony nominations were announced Tuesday morning, which included 6 nods for a play written by Danai Gurira.
Gurira’s first tony nomination came for her play Eclipsed. The Walking Dead star’s play is about five
women living during the Liberian civil war. Her production is the first Broadway show to feature an entirely black cast and creative team.
The play’s star, Lupita Nyong’o was also nominated for her first Tony, Best Actress.
Other actors Pascale Armand, Saycon Senglboh were nominated for Best Featured Actress in a Play and Liesl Tommy for Best Direction of a Play.
The popular musical Hamilton led the notations with 16 nods.
