Code 8 is available to watch this Friday and we can hardly contain our excitement. I have been following the crowdfunded feature since its inception. I’m even one of the 28,000 backers that helped raise $2.4 million to get this movie on its feet. The Amells sought an initial $200,000 which was absolutely blown out of the water. Thank you to all the fans who made this possible.
The film stars cousins Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell and is set in a world where 4% of the population are born with abilities. Unlike most films and shows that display these super powered beings as shining examples of justice, these people are feared and heavily oppressed by the police. in Code 8, Connor Reed, played by Robbie, is lured into a criminal operation led by Garrett, played by Stephen. Together, the two pull off a series of crimes while being hunted by the militarized police force.
Last night, we were given some fantastic news. What started as a viral short video will now be transformed into a series.
According to Deadline, the series will take place years after the events of the film and will be helmed by the film’s director, Jeff Chan. The Quibi series will also be written by Chris Paré who wrote the screenplay for the film.
Stephen Amell also shared the news via his Instagram:
The series will be produced by Colony Pictures along with Chan, the Amells, Pare, and XYZ Films.
