Cobra Kai: Season 4’s Debut Numbers are Huge for Netflix

With The Karate Kid spinoff originally beginning as a YouTube original before Netflix swooped in to acquire the distribution rights, Cobra Kai’s rise has been fascinating to watch.

The wonderfully cheesy martial arts drama is one of the platform’s most popular shows, with no indication of slowing down in terms of popularity or enormous viewing figures. The fourth season debuted on December 31, and it was viewed 120 million hours in less than a week.

The second season of The Witcher is way behind the first in terms of total watch time, with only 84 million hours. However, Geralt’s most recent batch of monster-slaying adventures did get a two-week head start on Johnny Lawrence, Daniel LaRusso and the rest of the crew.

The reboot of Cobra Kai has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, and the series hasn’t lost any of its momentum since first packing up and moving to Netflix.

The producers have ideas for at least two more seasons, if not more, so fans may rest assured that the show will continue to appear on television at least once a year.

About Netflix and Cobra Kai

Netflix originally started out as a way to change how movies were rented and customized their viewing experience to be personal for each individual. It allowed people to keep track of the movies they’ve watched and provided recommendations for other movies based on the individual’s preferences. Now, Netflix is pioneering something that TV enthusiasts have only dreamed about – personalized television episodes that are catered to the viewer’s preference.

Lately, Netflix has been trying its hand in making web series with shows like Daredevil , Jessica Jones , Narcos and most recently with season 3 of Stranger Things . Now, one series that has gained not only a cult following but also many awards, is the accompanying series to the Karate Kid franchise – Cobra Kai.

Originally released as a YouTube Red (now known as YouTube Premium) prequel/reboot of The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai was an unexpected hit and Netflix immediately picked it up for a second season after the first episode of season 1 was released. Cobra Kai has since then gained a large and supportive following for its nostalgic story about an old rivalry rekindled and how it affects the present generation, as well as the relationships between characters, such as Johnny Lawrence ( William Zabka ) and his former nemesis/now best friend Daniel LaRusso ( Ralph Macchio ).

As most fans of the show would agree, it has been one heck of a ride since 2018 when season 3 ended.
