Christina Applegate is making a triumphant return to television! The Bad Moms actress had just been cast in Netflix’s new half-hour dark comedy Dead to Me. The series comes from producers Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, whom Applegate worked with on the Anchorman movies, and will be written by 2 Broke Girls’ Liz Feldman.
The 10-episode series will star Applegate as Jen, “an uptight widow with a dark sense of humor and a few anger-management issues. After her husband dies in a hit-and-run accident, Jen strikes up a friendship with a free spirit who harbors a shocking secret. ” While it doesn’t explicitly say so, we have a small suspicion that this “free spirit” may actually be a literal spirit…maybe that of her dead husband?
Applegate’s recent TV credits include a starring role on NBC’s Up All Night with Maya Rudolph and Will Arnett back in 2011 and ABC’s Samantha Who? back in 2007. Of course, Applegate’s breakout role was as Kelly Bundy on the long-running sitcom Married With Children. She appeared in 263 episodes during the show’s ten-year run. Coming up, Applegate also starred in 2015’s Vacation with Ed Helms and will soon be starring in the TV movie Your Time Is Us, where she will be playing a psychologist reeling from a family tragedy and takes up an unconventional approach to helping her clients.
The series is set to start filming later this fall!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
