According to Matt Belloni’s Puck newsletter, Chris Rock recently turned down an offer to host the Golden Globes. This is after the controversy at this year’s Oscars where he reportedly slapped someone. It appears that he isn’t interested in hosting any award shows anymore, as this was also previously reported when it came out that next year’s Oscars ceremony would go without him too.
Belloni stated that Rock was offered an overwhelming amount of money to host the Golden Globes, but he turned it down. Therefore, producers for the Golden Globes have decided to move forward and hire someone else. According to Us Weekly, the Golden Globes will be aired on NBC and Peacock Tuesday, Jan 10. It should also be noted that this is not the first hosting gig Rock has rejected in recent months.
After Rock was offered to host the Oscars in 2023, he publicly declined the offer during a show in Phoenix. He also stated that he had rejected a lucrative opportunity to appear in a Super Bowl commercial on the subject.
Following the global impact of the Oscars incident, all of these proposals were accepted. During the ceremony, the comedian, who was a presenter, was beaten on stage by Will Smith after making a reference to Jada Pinkett Smith. Smith initially apologized in a press conference, after which the Academy announced that he would be banned from the Oscars or attending any Academy functions for the next ten years.
The King Richard star subsequently issued an apology on YouTube months later. The actor said in the video that he contacted Rock, but the Saturday Night Live alum was not ready to speak about it yet. He stated, “not ready to talk.”
“So I will say to you, Chris, I apologize to you I won’t be out of your thoughts, so please call. I’m ready to talk at any time.” Smith added, “I’m sorry for the way I behaved; there is no part of me that believes that was the correct way to act in that situation.”
“When it comes to feelings of disrespect or insults, there isn’t a part of me that thinks that’s the best approach to deal with it.”
