Last October, we had the distinct pleasure of interviewing the mastermind behind the 30 years worth of the iconic horror Child’s Play franchise films, Don Mancini.  Just ahead of New York Comic Con 2017, we sat with Mancini to discuss the newest film in the franchise Cult of Chucky as well as what the future has in store for everyone’s favorite murderous doll.

At the time, Mancini did some serious teasing regarding the future of the franchise after that Cult of Chucky cliff-hanger ending which completely shook up the Chucky world.  So, where does the franchise go from there?  Mancini’s words in October were, “You’ve got to shake it up and stay fresh. So the future… Just you wait.”

Now, it seems like that wait might be over.  On Friday, Bloody Disgusting announced that Mancini’s plans to take the franchise to a new level include a television series which is in development with franchise producer David Kirschner.

Fans will be pleased to know that the series will not be a reboot but, a continuation from where Cult left off in the evolving story.  Mancini describes the developing series as “dark and disturbing” and says he plans to use the Child’s Play name in the series title.  He continued:

“We want to definitely signal that we are going dark, darker than ever before. It’s going to be very creepy.”

Bloody Disgusting also caught up with Kirschner who is just as pumped for the series.  He said:

“I don’t think there’s a relationship that lasted this long.  I’m incredibly excited about the series and to explore a world in which we’ve never done before… Don has taken the franchise in a wonderfully frightening direction.  He seems to outdo himself every time.”

In addition to the series announcement, Mancini also confirmed that Brad Dourif would, once again, be returning to voice the role of Chucky.  As for more information regarding the series, we’ll just have to wait and see what kind of brilliance Mancini comes up with this time around.

What do you think about a Child’s Play television series being in development?  Are you excited to see the next chapter of Chucky unfold on television?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
