According to Deadline, Jungleland follows “a reluctant bare-knuckle boxer (O’Connell) and his brother (Hunnam) as they travel across the country for one last fight, but an unexpected travel companion (Barden) exposes the cracks in their bond along the way.” Winkler, who has directed episodes of popular sitcoms such as New Girl, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, will direct the film from a script that he co-wrote with Theodore B. Bressman and David Branson Smith.

The film comes from Brad Feinstein and Joseph F. Ingrassia from Romulus Entertainment, Jules Daly from Big Red Films, and Kevin Walsh and Ryan Stowell from Scott Free Productions.

Hunnam starred on FX’s Sons of Anarchy for seven seasons from 2008-2014 and since hanging up his motorcycle kutte he has appeared in a number of films including Crimson Peak, The Lost City of Z, and King Aruther: Legend of the Sword. His latest film Papillon, which he stars in with Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek and his Sons co-star Tommy Flanagan, is currently playing in theaters. Based on the international best-selling autobiographies, Papillon finds Hunnam as Henri Charriere, a man wrongfully convicted of murder who forms an unlikely relationship with a fellow inmate (Malek) as the two attempt to escape the notorious penal colony on Devil’s Island. Hunnam has a ton of films in the pipeline as well including A Million Little Pieces, which teams him back up with another Sons co-star and recent Walking Dead recruit Ryan Hurst as well as Billy Bob Thorton and Sneaky Pete’s Giovanni Ribisi. The film follows a young drug-addled writer as he submits to two months of agonizing detox at a treatment center. In that same vein, he will also be co-starring in the highly anticipated Netflix film Triple-Frontier, which features an all-star cast including Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Pedro Pascal, and Garrett Hedlund and follows five friends as they team up to take down a South-American drug lord.

Jungleland began shooting today in Massachusetts with plans to also film Buffalo, NY, Gary, IN, Reno, NV and San Francisco, CA. It currently doesn’t have a release date.
