In a year that seems to be focused on superheroes, the everyday heroes are making a name for themselves as well. It’s easy to admire those larger than life figures, but if you look around, chances are you’ll see someone doing good close to home, too.
One of those everyday heroes is James Shaw Jr who saved lives in Antioch, TN when he took a gunman down at a Waffle House location. Shaw saw the gunman’s moment of weakness and acted upon it. Out of his own will to live, he became a hero.
So of course, when given the chance, Chadwick Boseman honored Shaw in his own special way. Upon winning Best Hero at the MTV Movie & TV Awards, Boseman gave a special shout to a ‘real hero’ and asked Shaw to stand up in the audience. Shaw was met with applause and the look of surprise on his face was priceless.

Boseman went on to invite Shaw on stage and told him that the award would be living at his house.
He went on to tweet about the special moment during the award ceremony soon after it aired.
🍿🍿🍿 and more 🍿… THANK YOU #MTVAwards! #BlackPanther fans, you’re incredible. During the show, I was honored to meet @JamesShawJr9. He saved countless lives by tackling a gunman who opened fire on people in Antioch, Tennessee in April. He’s a true hero that walks among us. pic.twitter.com/bIF8vOk3v3
