Everyone is loving Riverdale’s new villain, Edgar Evernever, Actually, we’re all in love with the man or trading him, Chad Michael Murray.
Murray stopped by The IMDb Show and sat down with host Tim Cash to talk about his debut on Riverdale!
“Riverdale, for anyone who hasn’t seen it, is based on the Archie comics; Betty, Veronica, Archie, Jughead, whole pack and they’re solving crimes. They’re taking care of the world and trying to keep Riverdale a safe place. In comes Edgar Evernever,” said Murray.
In his interview, Murray shared how he prepared for his role as the cult leader then brought us back in time to his past roles in One Tree Hill, Dawsons Creek, and Gilmore Girls. He shared how he worked and created a timeless bond with Jared Padelecki while growing up in the entertainment industry together.
“We created a brotherhood because we both came up together,” said Murray.
To prepare for Edgar, Murray really got into the mindset of being a cult leader. He said that was the first thing he did when he found out he got the role.
“The Farm is wrapped in mystery, wrapped in enigma, and I believe personally in the good of the journey,” said Murray. “First thing was what is a cult leader? How do you go about obtaining so much power? I hate using the word manipulation but it truly is the gift of gab the gift of being able to uniquely grab someone’s persona in a heartbeat and to know what they need and what they want to hear. And to take that and to sculpt that into who this man’s gonna be.”
Murray has been on all kinds of hit shows and movies, One Tree Hill, Freaky Friday, and Gilmore Girls are just scratching the surface. He grew up on these sets and with Riverdale, he’s not only working with the older generation of teen heart throbs, he was a heart throb himself and now he’s getting to work with the next gen.
“Luckily, I already knew Skeet (Ulrich)… It’s nice to come into an environment and see a group of young, very intelligent, very good young adults who are going through the same journey you went on 15 years ago. Everyone looks at him like uncle Skeet there, they love him, they love Luke (Perry) and these guys really aided them on their journey. How cool that must be to starting in a show and to be able to have guys like that and the women like Gina (Gershon) and Molly Ringwald to really say this is kind of how the world works.”
Being no stranger to popular TV shows, Murray notes similarities between Riverdale and his past experiences.
“A lot of the underlining stories are all very similar, we’re all human and we’re all flawed and we’re all going through this journey together. That’s what made (90210, Dawson’s Creek,One Tree Hill) all these shows stand the test of time where people can really identify with them and Riverdale is the new version,” said Murray.
For fun, Murray was asked to cast his former costars into Riverdale. Murray said the answer was obvious: Hilary Duff is Betty, Alexis Bledel is Veronica, Milo Ventimiglia is Jughead an Jared Padelecki is Archie.
