Bud Light and ‘Game of Thrones’ Team Up for an Epic Super Bowl Commercial

What started out as just another beer commercial soon took an unexpected turn leaving Game of Thrones fans at Super Bowl parties across the country screaming with delight. Budweiser and HBO’s Game of Thrones teamed up for a surprise Super Bowl ad of epic proportions.

The ad started out just like any other “dilly dilly” Budweiser ad, with a knight dressed in Bud Light armor ready to take on his opponent in a jousting match.

The knight is, unfortunately, knocked off his horse. He is laying defeated on the ground when a familiar face graces the screen. It’s the Mountain, but it can’t be because it’s a beer commercial, right? This isn’t Game of Thrones. Is it? Oh, but it is! The familiar theme song begins to play, and well, we can sum up the rest of the spot with one word; “Dracarys.”

Check out the commercial below.

While fans are still waiting on an official trailer, during the Golden Globes, HBO released a sizzle reel teasing their upcoming 2019 program. The reel offered a new look at the upcoming eighth season showing Sansa Stark (played by Sophie Turner) meeting Daenerys (played by Emilia Clarke) for the first time!

In addition to the eighth and final season, HBO is currently developing at least one of the potential Game of Thrones spinoff. Starring Naomi Watts and written by Kingsman writer Jane Goldman, the prequel takes place thousands of years before Game of Thrones and “chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. Only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones will premiere on April 14, 2019.
