One Day at a Time follows three generations of the same Cuban-American family living in the same house. It stars, Justina Machado as single mother Penelope, Isabella Gomez and Marcel Ruiz as Penelope’s kids, and Rita Moreno as Penelope’s old school mom Lydia.
To make things even more exciting, the B99 ladies will be guest-starring on the same episode that Gloria Estefan is! According to EW, “Fumero plays Estrellita, a cousin Penelope used to be close with until Lydia and Estrellita’s mom — played by Estefan — developed a rift that hasn’t healed since. Beatriz, meanwhile, plays Pilar, another cousin of Penelope’s, who Elena (Isabella Gomez) believes is gay and wants to help come out to the family.”
Fumero and Beatriz have already been flying high in the world of television as their critically beloved sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which also stars Andy Samber, Terry Crews, Andre Braugher, and Chelsea Peretti, was recently saved by NBC after being suddenly canceled by FOX after five seasons.
Seasons 1 and 2 of One Day at a Time are currently streaming on Netflix with season 3 hitting the site in 2019. You can also stream all seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Hulu.
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
