Netflix’s period romance drama Bridgerton became a worldwide phenomenon when it debuted in 2020, and season two has followed in its footsteps, with Simone Ashley playing the leading lady for the current storyline. As Ashley rises to new heights of popularity as a result of her part, she is also expected to appear in another love tale: Disney’s live-adaptation of The Little Mermaid.

As reported by The Disinsider, she will play a part that is currently unknown. With reports claiming that the film would include Ariel’s six sisters, and with the studio wanting to cast people of color, it’s possible that she was chosen for one of them.

The eagerly awaited musical fantasy film is one of the most anticipated movies in recent memory, and while production concluded several months ago, it will not hit theaters until May 26, 2023.

Starring Halle Bailey as the titular princess, the film will feature new music by Alan Menken, who composed the songs for the 1989 original film. Rounding out the main cast are Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, Jude Akuwudike, Noma Dumezweni, Lorena Andrea, and Kajsa Mohammar, with Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, and Awkwafina in voiceover roles.

Ashley’s part in The Little Mermaid has yet to be revealed, but she is currently turning heads as Kathani Sharma on the second season of Bridgerton. She has also appeared in several Netflix hits, including Sex Education as Olivia Hanan. Her other television credits include appearances on The Sister, Broadchurch, and Doctors.
