Tenoch Huerta Exits Netflix Film Amid Sexual Assault Allegations

Tenoch Huerta, who gained mainstream fame last year playing Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has exited production on the forthcoming Netflix film, Fiesta en la Madriguera, amid allegations of sexual assault.

Huerta announced the news of his departure in a statement to ET on Wednesday. He said that he was withdrawing from the film “given the impact of the recent false statements by María Elena Ríos and the damage they have caused.”

“It is with great sadness that I do this, but I cannot allow her actions to harm not only me, but also the work of dozens of talented and hard-working people involved in the project,” Huerta said.

“My focus now is simple: continue the process of restoring my reputation,” he concluded.

The allegations against Huerta were first made by musician María Elena Ríos on June 10. In a series of tweets, Ríos accused Huerta of being a “sexual predator” and said that he had assaulted her in 2019.

Ríos said that she did not report the assault at the time because she was afraid of not being believed. She also said that she was concerned about the potential backlash she would face from Huerta’s fans.

Huerta has denied the allegations, calling them “false and completely unsubstantiated.” He said that he and Ríos “dated for several months” and that their relationship was “entirely consensual at all times.”

Netflix has not commented on the allegations against Huerta. The film, Fiesta en la Madriguera, is still scheduled to be released in 2023.
