Netflix has a new original series up their sleeves that’s sure to appeal to a younger audience. Kathryn Newton, who most recently played Abigail Carlson in Season 1 of Big Little Lies, has been cast to star in an untitled series for the streaming giant from Christopher Keyser (Party of Five).
The series has already been picked up for a ten-episode first season, which will follow the story of a group of “teenage inhabitants of a small town return home to discover that all of the adults in town have disappeared. They will party, panic, grieve, fight, and ultimately have to decide how to deal with the unthinkable.”
Newton will be playing Allie, who is “constantly living in the shadow of her older sister, Kim. Allie ultimately inspires her sister to take charge of the group and supports her during the ensuing confrontation,” according to Variety who broke the news.
In film, Newton starred in both Lady Bird and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, both of which were nominated for many Academy Awards in 2018. She is also known in the television world for her role as Claire Novak on Supernatural. She went on to reprise that role in a backdoor pilot for a potential Supernatural spinoff, Wayward Sisters, that was ultimately passed over by The CW, but it looks like it all worked out for Newton in the end as Netflix recently swiped the record away from HBO for most Emmy-Award nominations with 112. Newton will return for season 2 of Big Little Lies.
What do you think about the new series? Is it something that you would watch?
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
