BFI London Film Festival Announces 2017 Line-Up

Earlier today BFI revealed the full line up for the 61st London Film Festival, which runs from October 4th to the 15th and showcases 243 feature films across from 67 countries.

It has already been unveiled that Andy Serkis’ Breath will be the Opening Night Gala at the festival, while Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri will close the 12 day event of cinematic magic. A previous announcement also includes the premiere of Battle Of The Sexes, starring Emma Stone and Steve Carell.

Among this year’s headline galas are: Luca Guadagnio’s Call Me By Your Name (The Mayor of London’s Gala), Downsizing directed by Alexander Payne (BFI Patron’s Gala), Paul McGuigan’s Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool starring Jamie Bell and Annette Bening (The May Fair Hotel Gala), Saul Dibb’s Journey’s End, The Killing Of A Sacred Deer featuring Nicole Kidman, Richard Linklater’s Last Flag Flying, Dee Ree’s Mudbound (Royal Bank of Canada Gala), Guillermo Del Toro’s The Shape of Water (American Airlines Gala) and Lynne Ramsay’s anticipated thriller You Were Never Really Here starring Joaquin Phoenix.

The Stand Galas include: Amant Double (Dare), The Big Bad Fox And Other Tales (Family), Blade Of The Immortal (Thrill), The Florida Project (Festival), Foxtrot (Debate), The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) (Laugh), On Chesil Beach (Love), Redoubtable (Create), Shiraz: A Romance Of India (Archive), Thelma (Cult) and a special screening of Todd Haynes’s Wonderstruck starring Julianne Moor (Journey).

The many appearances from Cate Blanchett in ‘Manifesto’

In addition to the announced screenings, one of the talks revealed will include a conversation between Oscar winning actress Cate Blanchett and artist Julian Rosefeldt about working on Manifesto together – which also gets its European premiere at the festival. Other talks include discussions from: David Fincher on his new Netflix series Mind Hunter, Ian McEwan, Nitin Sawhney and Takashi Miike.
