BBC One Releases First Teaser for His Dark Materials
The best-selling series from author Philip Pullman is taking another crack at the screen, this time coming in the form of a television series from BBC One and HBO. Recently on Twitter, BBC One shared a first look at what’s to come in the first eight episodes of the series.

His Dark Materials includes the trilogy of books The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Hourglass. An adaptation of the series was attempted in 2007 with The Golden Compass staring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, but widespread criticism before the release and bad box office results led to the scrapping of any future movies in the series. Now, with author Pullman attached as executive producer, writer Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, This is England ’88), and critically-acclaimed director Tom Hooper (King’s Speech, Les Misérables), it’s time to take another trip in the magical world of His Dark Materials. According to Pullman:
“I’m delighted that the production is under way, and I’m looking forward immensely to seeing how it looks. Bad Wolf has assembled a wonderful cast and I’m sure every HDM reader is as keen as I am to see it all coming together.”
BBC One has assembled quite a cast including James McAvory as Lord Asriel, Ruth Wilson as Mrs. Coulter, Clarke Peters as the Master, and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby. Dafne Keen, who dazzled audiences as Laura/X-23 in Logan, will play main character Lyra.
His Dark Materials is set to air later this year, with a second series already in the works.
