Batwoman: David Ramsey Is Headed To Gotham Soon! And We Finally Know Why!

Batwoman has been through a lot this year, from getting a new main character to several status quo changes. Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) has been an admirable Batwoman, though! We’ll be seeing some more changes though, including an appearance from David Ramsey A.K.A John Diggle! And now David Ramsay explains why Diggle is heading to Gotham ahead of his official appearance!

We’ve known Ramsay wasn’t done with the Arrowverse quite yet, despite his flagship show, Arrow, ending a little after the Crisis crossover. The last time we saw Diggle we found out he was moving to Metropolis! We also witnessed him finding a strange box with something green glowing inside. It probably wasn’t Kryptonite…

Unfortunately, there’s no huge Arrowverse crossover this year. Originally there was slated to be a crossover between Batwoman and Superman And Lois. Circumstances, meaning the pandemic, have forced that specific crossover to… not happen.

There is no word on whether or not we might see that storyline picked up once the pandemic is under control. We’re hoping though, as we would love to see the new Batwoman meet both Superman And Lois.

Little has been known about Diggle’s return, other than the fact he will appear across five shows in the Arrowverse. This struck some fans as strange, especially since he barely knows anyone from the Batwoman cast. Diggle is heading to Gotham because he’s hearing voices.

Ramsay spoke to TVLine.

“Headaches. Debilitating headaches. And he’s hearing voices,” Ramsey explained. “He goes to Gotham to get help with this, to see a physician there, and in the meantime, his A.R.G.U.S. story continues. His wife is still head of A.R.G.U.S. and he’s co-head, and that’s part of what he brings when he goes to these cities. He’s there to assist and help in whatever way he can with his access to A.R.G.U.S. That’s a very big part of who he is.”

Obviously, we’ll need to wait until we see the actual episode to figure what’s wrong with Diggle. Nothing has been concerned so far, but the prevailing theory is that the box he found contained a Green Lantern ring. Diggle addressed that in the same interview too.

“To your other point, which is exploring what has happened to Diggle since encountering that green box, that will be explored in the other episodes – on Batwoman, Flash, Superman & Lois, and Supergirl,” Ramsey said elsewhere in the interview. “Whatever was in the box, he refused the invitation of. Let’s put it like that. But there are consequences to that.”

So, assuming it did actually contain a Green Lantern ring, it seems like Diggle refused it. That’s concerning, since we know how badly fans want him to suit up as the Arrowverse’s Green Lantern.

Something else fans are heavily looking forward to is seeing Ryan interact with other DC heroes. Ryan has yet to be involved in a crossover, for obvious reasons. In fact, the other Arrowverse heroes may not even be aware of her existence.

Javicia Leslie, the actress currently portraying Batwoman, is also looking forward to seeing her character interact with other heroes. She spoke about it during the DC FanDome last year. The Quote was pulled from ComicBook.com, as were the others in this work.

“Already, Batwoman stands out because she doesn’t have a superpower,” Leslie explained. “Everything she uses is her intelligence and Luke [Fox] and her physical strength. So, I do look forward to playing that part from a Ryan perspective, this street kid’s perspective. From a person that saw these superheroes growing up. Because that was also really important for Ryan to see Batwoman be an out lesbian, to have her superhero role model to look up to. So, to not only fill those shoes, but to [be] with the ones that have already been doing it, I think that that’s going to be a lot for her. It’s going to be a culture shock for her, but I also think it’s really cool.”

I’m glad David Ramsay explains why Diggle is heading to Gotham, ahead of it actually happening! Helps clear some things up!

Batwoman airs Sundays on The CW but it’s currently on hiatus!
