Accepting change is a hard thing to do. Frankly, that’s one of the many reasons I have sympathy for Norman. His entire world is changing and he just can’t keep up. It’s been like this for a while now and Mother is stopping him from progressing.
In the preview, we see Norman struggling to accept the changes that have occurred since he’s been at Pineview. Things between him and Norma just aren’t the same, despite Norman’s resistance to that fact. In the brief glimpses we get of Norma and Norman together in the preview, it seems to me that there’s an awkwardness between them that didn’t exist before. And it’s because Alex has come between them.
We also see Norman fighting to maintain his hold over Norma, even attempting to persuade Alex to divorce her.
We already know that Norman is fixated on the idea of Norma sleeping with Alex and the preview show us how desperate he is to confirm that that’s true. ‘Unfaithful’ is the perfect title for this episode.
It’s a slippery slope from here on out. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Norma and Alex did not survive the next few episodes…
