‘Bates Motel’ Preview: ‘Refraction’

Things are coming to a head on Bates Motel. Two weeks from now, Norman may very well find out everything that’s happened while he’s been away: Dylan and Emma; Norma and Alex…
In the preview for the next episode, we see Noman attempting to make arrangements to check himself out of Pineview. As with all things on Bates, there’s going to be a fight before Norman can even step foot out the front door. Judging by Dr. Edwards’ strength and resolve, I doubt very much that Norman will truly succeed. If he does get out, it likely won’t be because he’s gone through all the appropriate mediums. And that could be disastrous.
Say Norman does sneak out of Pineview and gets home–what will be waiting for him there? The answer is simple: not much. Nothing more than a new stepfather he’s not particularly fond of, a once doting mother who now dotes on her new husband instead, and a brother who’s on his way out. The Bates home holds virtually nothing for Norman at this time and it wouldn’t surprise me if it sent him over the edge.
The preview also shows Norma going completely berserk on someone on a dark roadside. My first thought was that it was Rebecca, the banker who helped launder Bob Paris’ fortune. Her jealousy was pretty apparent last episode and I wouldn’t be at all shocked if she threatened Norma in some way.
We shall see…
