‘Bates Motel’ Preview: ‘Lights of Winter’

Bad things are going to happen this season. But you knew that already. More specifically, very bad things are going to happen to Norma this season — and it’s all because of Norman. If we’re to rely on the latest ‘Bates Motel’ sneak peak for any indication of what’s to come, my guess would be that Norma’s strength and faith will be tested more than we’ve seen in any other season.
In the newest clip, we see Norman warning Dylan of what’s on the horizon for Norma. “Mother is in trouble,” he says. “The police may be coming to the house to talk to her.”
When Dylan presses him for a reason, Norman speaks of the ‘truth’ finally rising to the surface. The problem with this is that Norma, Norman, and Dylan all have different perceptions of the truth.
It’s a tangled and twisted web this family weaves and each one lives his or own truth. We know by now that Norman’s perception is completely unreliable. But given Norman’s nearsighted love for Norman, isn’t her perception skewed to some extent as well?
So, that leaves us with Dylan. Does he have enough distance from the situation to discern the truth from psychosis? Will he have to step in to save Norma from Norman (and herself) once again?
