Move over, Black Mirror! Netflix is back with an all-new “choose your own adventure” type series, and this time, they’re upping the ante and adding wilderness survival expert Bear Grylls.
The new series is called You vs. Wild and will be an interactive survival series following Grylls to various remote locations around the world. Much like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, viewers will have the option to select from multiple choices throughout the series which will impact the narrative which Grylls follows in the series, only this time, survival is at stake.
The official synopsis for the series says:
[row]”You vs. Wild is a survival show starring and following Bear Grylls in every episode on a survival show taking place in various remote locations around the world, and with a key feature of a branching narrative with multiple choices within the episode, where a user may direct the course of the story.”[/row]
No one is more pumped for this new series than Grylls himself. In a statement, he said, “I’m so proud to deliver this first-of-its-kind live-action interactive series, really giving viewers an all-access pass to explore the world and its landscapes in my boots. The stakes are high in this one!”
Variety reports that the series was officially announced today by Netflix VP Cindy Holland who also said the interactive means of storytelling is still very much in the evaluation stages at the streaming service. Based on the success of last year’s Bandersnatch, it’s a safe bet that Netflix’s viewers are ready for more interactive viewing experiences.
Viewers won’t have to wait too long to jump into nature with Bear Grylls. You vs. Wild premieres on Netflix on April 10, 2019. Check out the series poster below.
