‘Bad Boys 4’ is Not Moving Forward Thanks to Will Smith’s Oscar Drama

After 17 years, the return of Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett turned out to be well worth the wait, after the third installment in the Bad Boys franchise scored the greatest box office and best reviews of the trilogy, and it wasn’t even close.

A first-place prize of $426 million and a 76 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating was a spectacular return for an R-rated action sequel that had endured numerous false starts throughout the lengthy development process, and nobody was shocked when a fourth buddy cop film was officially announced on the same day as Bad Boys for Life hit theaters.

However, the turmoil that persists around Will Smith following the Academy Awards may have thrown a wrench in the works, at least according to The Hollywood Reporter. The future of the Academy Award-winning actor’s upcoming schedule is a source of much speculation, and it appears that Bad Boys 4 might be put on hold indefinitely, as you can see below.

“Is there any immediate effect on his projects? Well, here’s one tidbit we’ve heard this week: Bad Boys 4 had been in active development, and Smith received 40 pages of the script before the Oscars incident, according to our sources. Now there will be a … pause … in work as things play out, we’ve been told

The report’s opacity provides little in the way of concrete specifics, but it would arguably be the safest and wisest decision for Smith to return to a guaranteed money-spinning blockbuster as his next stop after the previously notorious bust, so we’ll be on the lookout for how Bad Boys 4 develops from here.
