Fan Fest News crashed the red carpet at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan on Monday night, where celebrities of stage and screen came out to honor Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress Cicely Tyson for her acclaimed career and dedication to theater and the arts. The evening also marked the 99th anniversary of the American Theatre Wing, who hosted the event.
Among those in attendance were Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers, Snakes on a Plane), Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black), Spike Lee (Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X), Lucy Liu (Elementary, Charlie’s Angels), Christian Siriano (Project Runway), and Randi Zuckerberg (sister to Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg).
The American Theatre Wing, also the creator of the Tony Awards, was established to honor and celebrate American theater, and provides funding and education for future generations of aspiring artists. All funds raised at the gala will benefit the Wing’s programs supporting the theater community.
